About us

Wrightington Hospital is a Centre of Excellence for Orthopaedic Surgery.
We currently have 10 operating theatres and a new theatre complex consisting of 4 barn theatres is due to open in late 2015.
The Wrightington Hospital Anaesthetic department is also well known for dedication to Regional Anaesthesia incuding teaching, training, audits and research. We also have about 4 senior specialist trainees per year who do their higher specialist regional anaesthesia training at Wrightington Hospital.
On any normal working day at Wrightington Hospital, we usually have the following Theatre lists running-

3-4 Upper Limb Lists

1-2 Foot and Ankle Lists
-
4-5 Lower Limb Lists which include Hip and Knee primary and revision joint replacements.

1 soft tissue knee and reconstructive knee surgery list

1 plastic surgery- upper limb list

Orthopaedic Trauma is perfomed at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary site in Wigan- 7 days a week and is Consultant Led
We perform various Regional Anaesthesia Blocks such as-
-
Upper Limb :Ultrasounnd guided Interscalene, Supraclavicular, Infraclavicular, Axillary and wrist blocks.

Lower Limb: Ultrasound guided Femoral, Fascia Iliaca, Adductor Canal, Sciatic, Popliteal, Ankle and Lumbar Plexus (N. Stimulator) Blocks

Ultrasound guided Central neuroaxial blocks.

Misc: PECS Blocks (for Breast Surgery) at RAEI site.
We also have regular CPD meetings and educational study days.
